A delightful musical experience
Wiener Singverein on tour with Arthur Honegger´s „Jeanne d’Arc au bûcher“
Between December 12 and 18, 2024, the Wiener Singverein performed Arthur Honegger's large-scale dramatic oratorio “Jeanne d'Arc au bûcher”, which retells the story of the French resistance fighter and national heroine Joan of Arc, four times in the famous concert halls of Frankfurt, Paris, Vienna and Hamburg. At the invitation of the hr-Sinfononieorchester under the direction of its chief conductor Alain Altinoglu, the choir (rehearsed by Johannes Prinz) performed alongside Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard as Joan as well as together with an impressive soloist ensemble and four different children's choirs on this European tour. Particular highlights were the acclaimed debut of the Vienna Singverein at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and the guest performance at the Paris Philharmonie, where the work was presented to the audience in the original French language at the place of its creation. The Singverein was celebrated by critics and audiences alike: “A bow to the Vienna Singverein, magnificent in its discipline, transparency, sonority, vehemence as well as in its gentleness”, wrote “Diapason Magazin” and in Hamburg the “outstanding declamation” of the Singverein was noted.
